Internet and TV, are we at the tipping point?
Walt Mossberg today reviewed a couple of new technologies that allow you to beam video from a PC to a TV wirelessly. Pretty cool, but IMHO there is not a big demand for this. More interesting is the discussion about whether we are at the tipping point between TV and the internet, where more and more people will get their video from the Internet. In the video below Walt is a sceptic, but his ...
Deportalization and Internet Advertising
Glam hired a new guy today. Techcrunch, VentureBeat and PaidContent all posted about it. All of the reporting on this hire focus on Glam's coup in getting their man, and on their profitability heading into Q4. There is little in the way of analysis, which is probably quite reasonable on a news-filled Monday morning here on the West Coast.. As TechCrunch's Jason Kincaid reports: Glam Media h...
Real Time Streams
John Borthwick has captured in words what many have been grappling with in a less articulate way for about 18 months. The new paradigm we need to think about the internet has finally emerged. This snippet outlines the broad trend: Start with this constant, real time, flowing stream of data getting published, republished, annotated and co-opt’d across a myriad of sites and tools. The s...
In Defense of “nothing”
Columnist Henry Porter is generally considered to be a wise observer of the human condition. Today, in an article in the UK Guardian owned Sunday, The Observer, he blew it ..... badly. As a newspaper man he ought to have been aware of his almost certain bias and perhaps counted to ten before pushing "send". And, given that he didn't,  his editor should have saved him from himself after the fact,...
RSS has peaked! – Forrester. Nope, it hasn’t! – Me
Forrester released a report today ($279 download if you want it). Titled "What's holding RSS back?" it claims that only 11% of Internet consumers use RSS and that those who have not don't understand it. Steve Rubel at Micro Persuasion responds that : "..while feed adoption may have crested the idea of online opt-in communications is just getting going. The Facebook newsfeed, Twitter and Frie...
OpenID and Data Portability
Nicolas Popp - a leading advocate of Open Identity and data solutions - posted on his VeriSign blog today following the rather heated discussions that have ensued since Google announced its Friend Connect product recently. Nico's employer - VeriSign - along with Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, AOL and others, is a member of the board of the OpenID foundation.Nico's primary argument (emphasis mine) is...
Google and the newspapers
Over the long labor day weekend Google announced a serious change in the way Google News will relate to the various wire services and the newspaper industry. The change could have a dramatic impact on the traffic Google News sends to newspaper web sites. There have been several commentaries on the developments and Techmeme has been a great source tracking them. The New York Times, ironica...

Podtech.net launched

Posted By: Keith Teare on May 23, 2005 in Internet, Web 2.0 - Comments: 3 Comments »

John Furrier has launched PodTech.net. It is described by John and his team as : “Fresh Voices of Silicon Valley, Technology, and Media

The initial podcasts are from inside Barracuda Networks and Yahoo!.

Here’s wishing John all the best. He is one of the most creative people I have worked with. I hope he hits this one out of the park – like his Redsox did last year.

Here is John’s first post explaining Podtech.net:

“Develop New Relationships with Users – with Transparent Marketing PodTech.net was inspired by the notion of putting out valuable information as a utility for users to consume.

Smart marketers are distributing their marketing information in the format that their prospects and customers use to consume Internet based information. Blogs and Podcasting are perfect for this new user consumption model.

Using podcasting and weblogs (blogs) companies can now take advantage of new marketing and sales channels for rapid communications of marketing messages, new product information, and sales services to reach new customers.

Implementing podcasting marketing executives can now syndicate your marketing messages, white papers, product information, case studies, analyst reports, and other important information faster and at lower costs then traditional online techniques. Most importantly add value to users through a candid transparent approach using blogs and podcasting.

Why use Podcasts and Blogs: It’s the new interactive and real time format that users prefer to use when consuming information or media on the Internet.

Create instant presence and visibility for your new product introduction campaigns. Take advantage of credible and effective techniques for demand and lead generation. Interactive media format provides the best product and information experience and is ideal for a companies sales reps and customers.

Higher ROI through the lower costs to distribute of content.

Archimedes Ventures

I’m pleased to announce the creation of Archimedes Ventures. Mike Arrington and myself are having a ton of fun and will be having a ton more.

Despite tha name Archimedes is not a venture fund. In the bubble it would have been called an incubator and descriptively that is exactly what it is. Post bubble political correctness prevents us using this term (irony should be read into this sentence).

We are currently working with a number of teams developing projects. If you like what you read at our site and are an engineer, product manager or web designer who can afford to work for founders stock please get in touch. if you are an entreprenuer with an idea, we are mostly developing our own stuff. But don’t let that put you off if you think you have a compelling Web 2.0 proposition.

If you have a company and want to sell it, get it funded or take its product to the next level, we are doing a limited amount of consulting to pay the bills.

It’s great to be back.

Brad Feld has a post on how to treat and think about vesting when negotiating a term sheet.

A good read.

Happy Birthday Sir. I was 50 myself last year and it’s been a great 8 months since then – except for the unsightly body hair I have in places it didn’t used to be :-) .

Apart from that the world is just as interesting – actually even more so.

I predict great things for you during the next milestone decade :-)
